Meet Tom Ikonomou

Full back story

Tom was born in Montreal of hard working parents who immigrated from Greece. His father worked in the construction industry and mother worked as a maid. After just 5 years in Montreal, Tom’s father looked for better opportunities and sought to explore Canada and other cities to live in.

As a toddler Tom moved to Thompson, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, Kamloops & to Kelowna by the time he was eight years old. Tom spent his school years in Kelowna where he worked as a cook and burned up the pavement of Bernard Avenue (Kelowna’s main drive)

Previous accomplishments

His father opened a number of restaurants which meant more work for young Ikonomou. In 1983, Tom again relocated to Ashcroft with the family where they continued in the construction and operations of two more restaurants.

During Tom’s years in “God’s country,” Tom volunteered with the Ashcroft Fire Dept, played drop in hockey, duffed at golf… lot’s of golf, skied at Todd Mountain (Sun Peaks) and enjoyed road trips by car and motorcycle.

In 1993 Tom moved to Greece for an extended holiday. Enlisted in the Army and after completing his national tour of duty, got married. In 1994 Tom moved back to Canada with his wife where they lived in Abbotsford, BC for a short time (The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree)

In 2002 Tom was introduced to the film industry where he worked as a local hire. For the first time Tom realized that there was in fact life.. outside of the restaurant industry. However, wanting to continue his passion for restaurants, Tom moved again to Kamloops in 2003 and built two more restaurants, the Lucky Break Cafe & The Donair Express.

The transition

After a total of nearly 20 years in the hospitality industry, Tom sat down with his wife and discussed the prospect of changing careers. After some serious conversations, Tom sold the restaurants in 2007 & became a Licensed Real Estate Agent.

In January of 2008 Tom Joined Century 21. He was surprised to learn they did not give out gold jackets (you had to pay for for them) Tom sold his first house in the first two weeks of getting licensed  (the industry standard is six months).

That year the market was hit with a major slowdown. Tom’s number of sales however, continued to increase year after year while other agents were leaving the business. Tom became a top agent in his office for the next several years.

The Relocation

In 2016, Tom relocated with his own family to Vancouver where he joined RE/MAX and continued to sell residential homes in West Vancouver, Richmond, White Rock, Burnaby, Maple Ridge, Mission, Coquitlam as well as Vancouver.
